MAX: All right, so Henry James, the man of the moment.

일주일 뒤 내 책상에 리포트 올려놓도록. 질문 있는가?)
* 문학 수업시간, 맥스 선생님이 숙제를 내줍니다.

I'm leaving a week from today.
We're going to tell her on her birthday - that's two weeks from today.
MAX: Did you hear the assignment?
(과제가 뭔지 들었니?)
RORY: Um no, I'm sorry.
(어, 아니오. 죄송합니다.)
MAX: Henry James. Pick your novel.
A report on my desk in one week. You got it?
(헨리 제임스. 책 하나를 골라라.
일주일 뒤 내 책상에 리포트 가져다 놓도록. 알겠니?)
* in 시간 ~ 뒤에
(위의 ‘~from today’ 외에도 이렇게 다양하게 쓸 수 있네요.)
I'll call again in an hour.
I'm leaving in an hour and I haven't packed yet!
Scene #11 로리를 걱정하는 맥스
MAX: You've seemed to be a little distracted for quite a while now.
(요즘 한동안 집중을 좀 못하는 거 같더구나.)
RORY: My grades are fine.
(제 성적은 괜찮아요.)
MAX: I'm not concerned about your grades.
I'm concerned about you.
Look Rory, I know that you've been going through kind of a tough time lately
and I just want you to know, if you want to talk, I'm here.
(난 네 성적을 걱정하는 게 아니야.
난 네가 걱정돼.
요즘 좀 힘든 시간을 보내고 있다는 거 안다.
그리고 네가 알았으면 하는게 있는데, 말할 사람이 필요하다면 내가 여기 있단다.)
* 수업 시간에 집중 못하는 로리를 보고 맥스는 수업 후 나가려는 로리를 부릅니다.

We have been going through a bad time.

MAX: Please, don't be upset at her.
It just came out in one of our conversations.

(엄마에게 화내지 마라.

RORY: You've been talking to my mom?
(그동안 우리 엄마랑 연락하고 있었어요?)
MAX: Well yes.
(어, 그래.)
RORY: Since when?
(언제부터요?)
MAX: It's been a couple, 3 weeks now I guess.
(몇 주, 한 3주쯤 된 거 같다.)
* 로리는 자기의 상황을 알고 있는 맥스에게 놀랍니다.
그리고 엄마와 맥스가 그동안 다시 연락하고 있었다는 걸 알게 되죠.
* be upset at ~에 화나다
He was upset at not being invited.
He wasn't all that upset at the news.
* since when? (니가) 언제부터?

딘 일로 가뜩이나 심란한데
엄마는 맥스와 다시 연락한다는 걸 숨기고 있었다는 사실에
로리는 엄마에게도 배신감을 느낀 거 같아요.
