청구서를 다 가져가셔서 검토해 보시겠다는 아버지.
애덤과 앤디는 자기들이 돈을 해결해 보겠다고 말하러 갑니다.
그럼 이어지는 에피소드 시작하겠습니다.
Scene #4 아버지 댁에서 모인 가족들
Adam: Hey kids, go give Grandpa a kisses and put him in a good mood.
(얘들아, 가서 할아버지한테 뽀뽀하고 기분 좋게 해드려.)
* 돈을 안빌리겠다고 말하기 전에 아버지 기분을 일단 좋게 만들려 합니다.
* in a good mood 기분이 좋은
You're in a good mood this morning!
I was surprised to see he was in a good mood.
Adam: We think we can handle our own finances.
We may decide to cut back on the coffees..
(우리가 우리의 재정을 알아서 잘 할수 있을거 같아요.
커피를 줄일 수도 있고..)
Andi: Nope.
(아뇨.)
Adam: ..or keep it the same, but it’ll be our decision.
(아니면 그대로 하던가..어쨌든 우리가 결정할게요.)
* 아버지는 어떻게 내 도움을 거절할 수가 있냐며 애덤과 또 티격태격 하십니다.
어쨌든 경제권은 다시 갖고 왔어요.
* cut back on ~을 줄이다 (=cut down on)
The doctor's told me to cut back on caffeine.
Financial pressures caused the company to cut back on spending.
Bev: I’ll even come over early and give you a hand with the cooking.
So everything’s not so salty.
(내가 일찍 가서 음식할때 도와주마.
그래야 모든 음식이 짜지 않을테니.)
* 애덤의 어머니는 형 생일 파티를 자기 집에서 하시길 원합니다.
형수님은 자기 남편인데 당연히 자기가 준비한다고 하죠.
다들 형수님이 하는게 좋겠다고 해서 어머니가 하는 말입니다.
* give a hand 도와주다, 거들다
Give a hand with the washing-up.
He always give a hand to anyone in difficulty.
Scene #5 집에 와서 재정을 살펴보는 Adam과 Andi
Adam:
I know we agreed to never touch it, but how’s our emergencies rainy day fund?
(그건 절대 건드리지 말자고 동의한거 아는데,
우리 만약을 대비해 들어놓은 비상 펀드 사정은 어때?)
Andi: It’s not looking good.
You remember the washer went out and then the dryer went out a week later,
like a sweet old couple?
(별로 안좋아. 세탁기 나갔고 그 다음 일주일 뒤에 드라이어도 나갔던거 기억하지?
사랑스런 노 부부처럼?)
* rainy day 만약의 경우, 궁핍할 때
Keep something for a rainy day.
He has a little money put aside for a rainy day.
* go out 기능을 멈추다
After the power went out, I lit the candlelights.
The printer went out. I need to buy new one.
Bev: Is it so hard to understand that an old man wants to feel necessary
and looked up to by his son?
(늙은이가 자기를 필요로 하길 원하고
아들한테 존경받고 싶어한다는걸 이해하는게 그렇게 힘드냐?)
Andi: And all Adam wants is for his dad to be proud of him
and trust him to do things on his own.
( 그리고 애덤이 아버님에게 원하는건 단지 아들을 자랑스러워 하고
그가 스스로 일을 처리하도록 믿어주는 거예요.)
* 어머니는 집에 오셔서 아버지의 맘을 알려주죠.
그리고 아버지와 자기의 기분을 풀어줘야 한다고 합니다.
* look up to 존경하다, 우러러 보다
They all look up to their teacher.
They all look up to him as their leader.
Scene #6 어머니 기분을 풀어주는 Adam과 Andi
Andi: We agree that, the, uh, best person to throw a birthday party
for married, adult man is his mother.
(어, 우리는… 그… 결혼한 어른 남자의 생일 파티를 열어줄 가장 좋은 사람은
그의 어머니라는 것에 동의했어요.)
Bev: Oh, Adam, Andi, this is out of nowhere.
(오우, 애덤, 앤디, 그것 참 뜬금없구나.)
* 어머니의 기분을 풀어드리기 위해 (어머니의 사주를 받아)
애덤과 앤디는 형수님에게 형의 생일 파티를 어머니가 주관하시도록 말합니다.
어머니는 몰랐다는 듯 연기를 아주 잘하시네요. ㅋㅋ
* throw a party 파티를 열다
Why not throw a party for your friends?
My mom will throw a birthday party for me this Saturday.
* out of nowhere 뜬금없다, 난데없다
From out of nowhere he asks me to marry him!
Out of nowhere, he started to ask strange questions.
결국 형의 생일파티는 어머니 집에서 열립니다.
크리스마스 파티는 형수님이 주관하기로 하고 말이죠.
어쨌거나 윈윈이었어요.
애덤과 아버지는 딱히 말하지 않아도 서로의 맘을 이해합니다.
